Leek Summer Pool League was decided this last week with defending champions the Priory playing the winners for the previous 6 seasons the Prince of Wales. The Priory beat the Prince in the semi final last season and then went on to beat the Royal Oak in the final. This season saw the Prince beat the Royal Oak in the semi final with the Priory beating the Britannia.
The 1st leg took place at the Prince of Wales who won the 1st doubles but the Priory levelled with a good finish from Andy Joyce, before a fine 8 - ball clearance from Andy Slack left the Prince 2 - 1 up after the doubles. Mick Oddy took the opening singles but the Priory went 4 - 3 ahead through captain Dan Duffield, Mark Drury with another good 8 -ball finish and Ben Duffield. Jamie Woodcock won a crucial 8th frame for the Prince, beating current Leek Singles Merits winner Graham Spedding and then Nick Burton gave the Prince of Wales a slender 5 - 4 lead in what was an excellent match.
The 2nd leg saw a perfect start for the Priory winning the opening doubles and then the next with a touch of good fortune. The Prince got back into the match with the final doubles to leave the teams level at 6 - 6. Jamie Woodcock and Mark Mannion both played well to get the Prince 8 - 6 ahead, but Dan Duffield was always in control against Andy Slack and reduced the deficit to 1 frame. Aidy Kosasih then pulled out a great shot to get on the black and take the Prince to within 1 frame of victory and leave Adam Burtonshaw the opportunity to secure the Leek Summer League Pool title which he took and so the Prince of Wales were Champions with a 10 - 7 victory.
